Burrito to go?

I was running late on Monday, rushing to Brittain to grab a quick bite, hopefully catch the stinger, and then not be late to English.  It was about 11:45 when i got in Brittain and the Burrito line was really short, so i hoped in and waited.  I finally got to the front and ordered my usual, chicken, rice, lettuce, and tomato.  Now its about 10 min. till class so i put the plate down and left the dining hall burrito in hand.

But guess what... apparently you cant do this!  They made me sit and eat it instead of allowing me to walk out.  There logic?  I could be bringing the food to someone who isn't on a meal plan.  My logic?  Who would try to scam food from brittain...of all places.  They apparently didn't understand where i was coming from and so i ended up running to catch a stinger while still choking on half the burrito i shoved down my throat.  But at least i got to class as roll was being taken.

Don't you think they should allow you to walk out burritos?  They let you for ice cream, apples, and bananas.  Such a stupid rule...

  1. Walk out anyway. I leave the dining hall all the time with an ice cream or banana. Sometimes I even leave with a muffin or some cookies. It seems the more we get into the school year, the more annoyed I get with the people working in the dining halls. It is always something stupid. One of them even accused we of walking in without swiping my card (I did get my card swiped, as this same lady was rambling to the cashier the whole time). Sometimes I get the point where I simply ignore them.

  2. Do they let you walk out with the ice cream and fruit because you have already begun to eat it. Walking out with a burrito with no bites on it may be a little suspicious.

  3. I think you're being a little unfair to the GT dining staff... I'm not surprised, a lot of students here hate the dining services, but if truth be told... they're not that bad. They do their best.
In fact, a I like most of the staff... they're friendly, courteous and fun at the same time. I understand its a little hard for us Tech students not to be angry at these little things, with all that academic pressure... but I think we should all be a little more forgiving.

  4. This is why you have to bring your bookbag into Brittain. If you have a meal plan, you paid for that burrito. Get it out by any means necessary.

  6. Their rules on bringing food out seem pretty ridiculous to me. I can understand not allowing someone to bring an entire plate of food out, but if you have something in hand they should allow you to leave. People are sometimes in a hurry and the staff should be more understanding about this fact. Especially if you explain it to them.

  7. I agree with Hassan. Yes, sometimes we get frustrated but we need to be appreciative for everything they do for us. If they say something to you about it just be respectful and say okay. If you really want that burrito then like someone else said just hide it somewhere and then walk out.

  8. I've been pretty satisfied with Brittain's service--other than getting my food sprayed by the cleaning chemical they use occasionally! The people there are usually friendly and enjoy a chat--especially the burrito lady!

I have taken out food, but it's usually just a muffin or a piece of fruit on the way out. I would suppose that you could use Buzzby if you needed something quick, though Buzzby isn't a replacement for Brittain's burritoes!

  9. I actually like all the staff at Brittain, they are very friendly and attentive. However, there was this one time in which I was taking some cookies out of the dinning hall to eat them later and right as I was about to leave, one of the staff members stopped me and order to see what I was carrying in my hand. She saw they were cookies and let me go.

  10. I agree, the rules for taking food out of the dining halls are very strict. But since you've already eaten a good portion of the burrito, I don't see why they shouldn't let you leave the dining hall with it...

  11. A way around it: say you are sick. They give take-out trays for "sick" students to go back to their room. If they don't beleive you, say its for r sick roommmate. I promise it works
