Pears

Brittain surprised this week with nothing other than pears. Normally i am an apple man, but the organic locally grown pears that the dining hall was proudly showcasing were nothing short of amazing. They were perfectly ripe with a unique sweetness about them. It was a very pleasant surprise because most store bought pears are bitter and lacking in flavor. The only down side to the amazing pears is that they are now gone, so those of you who didn't get to try them missed out.

  1. i hate how short pears are good, but you are right, when they are perfectly ripe they are amazing and sweet. I stole about 4 from Brittain last week haha, don't tell the staff.

  2. Sounds delicious, I actually didn't grab any pears from the dinning hall since I thought they would be sour so I grabbed apples instead. Well I guess I did miss out.

  3. Their pears this past week was really quite good. I think I had 2 in a row one day. You should definitely try korean pears! They are almost always amazingly plump and sweet.

  4. Of the few fruits I have eaten this semester, most of them have been bananas or apples. I tried a pear once and it was horrible, so I have not given another one a try since, but it sounds like I shouldn't have done so.

  5. Continuing with the rivalry between the two dining halls, just wished to say that there were pears in Woodies too which very pretty much of the same quality. Being a foodie, I stole about 3 pears instantaneously when I saw them in the food basket. I am very sad who did not get to try any.

  6. I still haven't eaten any fruit from the dining hall. Sometimes the ones kept in the front look bruised and unappetizing. I'm glad to hear the pears were good, but I'll stick with my Farmer's Market strawberries.

  7. I'm upset I missed this. I like pears, but don't want to buy them because they go bad so quickly. Speaking of fruit at Brittain, it seems that the quality is going down about as fast as the rest of the dining hall. I just got back from there and all of the bananas were more brown than yellow. :-/

  8. I wish I had seen them. I've always loved a good pear. I'll just have to wait until I stumble upon them some day at Brittain later on, but for now I still have a stash of apples that I have accumulated in my room.

  9. The one week that I manage to avoid Brittain, they actually have good produce. I would kill right now for good fresh fruits and vegetables. This sucks

  10. The pears were a spur of the moment decision a few days ago--and I was shocked. Usually the dining halls have out of season fruit, but when I ate my first pear, I was amazed. Juicy and perfectly ripe! I admit I stole a few as well :D

  11. Pears are one of my favorite fruits. But they appear very rarely in the dining hall. Most of the time they have apples or bananas. But when they do have it it tastes pretty decent.
