Welton on Wings: “WoW! For the World of Wings”

“Sauce! Sound! Soul and Spice!” These four components define the very existence of the World of Wings. The World of Wings, or WoW for short, was founded by three brothers from New Orleans who were very passionate about the elements that represented the “Soul of South Louisiana.” Since then, locations of the World of Wings have expanded to eighteen different states and are even located within colleges, one of which is located on the Georgia Tech campus. Since the restaurant are located on campus, one can use his/her “Unlimited Plus 5” meal plan to pay for his/her meal. These brothers brought in a whole new meaning of fun into the restaurant by combining music and food with family, friends and those who come in just to have a good time.

“WoW,” speaks for itself. It was the very first thought that came across my mind as I walked into the World of Wings was, “Wow.” The restaurant had four HDTVs, all on different channels such as college football, Pro football, tennis, movies, and news, mainly sports. No one goes to the World of Wings just to eat; they come in knowing that they will have a satisfying, humorous, and enjoyable time while eating. Often, there is a group of people watching football like students or tourists, but especially the employees. While I was eating, I noticed the friendliness and affection between the workers. They made fun of each other jokingly and interacted in a friendly way with the customers in the restaurant. This act of kindness makes the customers feel like a part of the environment and feel welcome because of the outgoing personalities of the employees. Though the workers may be extremely outgoing and nice, the service for certain foods is quite a different story.

I have eaten at the World of Wings with acquaintances from college multiple times and I have noticed that certain foods take a lot longer that it should within reason. For example, there was an instance in which I went out with my dorm mate and a friend from the on campus church to eat lunch. I ordered Thai wings, my dorm mate ordered the chipotle chicken wrap, and my other friend ordered a cheese burger. The wings are always finished first and I got my food within the first ten minutes. My friends however, did not get their food, so I waited patiently (as it is, in my opinion, rude to eat when other people don’t have their food!). By the time they received their food, another 15 minutes had passed, so it took 25 minutes overall for my friends to receive their order. Luckily, the food was good, so my friends did not complain. Though the service for certain foods is not as fast as I would like, the World of Wings makes up for it by preparing the entrée with delicious and satisfying options.

The World of Wings’ menu ranges from fried mushrooms for appetizers to Texas Toast burgers to delicious dessert with ice cream on top of a warm, fresh brownie. These foods have a unique taste to them and has customers coming back daily for more. Of these foods, the
World of Wings is, obviously, most noted for its wings, and has been my favorite food item to order at this restaurant. Wings can be prepared with bones or without bones; the boneless wings are basically just chicken tenders. Wings are can be ordered in increments of half pounds while the chicken tenders can be ordered in increments one fourth of a pound. Upon ordering your wings, you are asked, “What type of sauce would you like?” One of the reasons why the World of Wings is most for its wings is because of their eleven different and unique flavors. Of these eleven sauces, four of them are award winning sauces and are quite “sauce-a-licious” as defined by WoW. Sauces are offered with a description and include Buffalo I-the original, Buffalo II- 3 times as hot, Buffalo- Off the Charts, Kansas City- Honey BBQ, Jamaican- Rich, authentic spicy jerk, Polynesian- sweet and sour, Asian- Teriyaki, Texas- Mesquitte BBQ, Italian- Garlic and Herb, Parisian- Lemon Pepper, and Thai- Creamy peanut with zest. The four award winning flavors are Buffalo I, Jamaican, Texas, and Thai; these four sauces are extremely popular and are ordered many times throughout the day. I personally recommend the Thai flavored wings. Just as it says, the flavor is creamy peanut with zest and the cooks will provide a generous helping of it and the wings will arrive within ten minutes; however, upon first bite I will guarantee you that the first thought that will cross your mind is “Wow!” The sauce gives off a creamy peanut sensation that has a sweet taste that will send chills down one’s spine upon encountering his or her taste buds. After each bite, it makes one yearn more for the sauce; luckily, there is leftover sauce from the generous helping earlier, which allows one to dip his or her fries in the sauce and eat happily.

The World of Wings however, is not simply popular for only their wings; their quesadillas are also quite well known. These quesadillas contain assorted cheeses, sauces of your choice, homemade salsa, and sour cream, all conveniently wrapped in a garlic and herb tortilla. Ingredients in a wrap are enfolded by the same garlic and herb tortilla that is used for quesadillas. These wraps often contain your choice of fried or grilled chicken with other toppings of your discretion and are served with fries. Depending on what a person likes to eat, he or she can choose to eat a vegetable wrap or even a hot buffalo wrap. With the first bite, one will notice how fresh the quesadillas and the wraps are. Every bite off the quesadilla is filled with hot, steamy cheese and seems to stick to the top of your mouth, making one want to crave for more, and the chicken with the wraps are extremely tender and juicy topped off with delectable homemade dressing , and as one my friends said, “finger-lickin’ good!” At the World of Wings anyone can eat freely!

The World of Wings strives to use the freshest ingredients in order to insure a pleasuring experience at the restaurant and provide succulent options for anyone to enjoy. The chicken is all white meat and is delivered daily to all the World of Wings’ restaurants to guarantee freshness in ingredients. On top of that, sauces are made from scratch, creating a unique taste no other restaurants can match.

The World of Wings is conveniently located in the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Student Center and is a common locale for a group of people to just spend time with one another. At the World of Wings, anyone can have fun, from parents, children, students, and even the employees, for the employees actively draw in attention from customers with their comical display of friendliness. The food at the World of Wings is prepared with the freshest ingredients and can make anyone’s mouth water with anticipation. While food often takes awhile to cool and forces one to wait at least 20 minutes for his or her food, eating at the World of Wings is a pleasurable experience. The food here will make you want to lick your fingers after finishing your food and the atmosphere will make you laugh at the happenings around you. The food at the World of Wings is indeed quite “sauce-a-licious” and I guarantee that you will leave with a smile and say “WoW! What a Place!”
