Cookbook adventures

While browsing through the cookbooks at the bookstore, I realized that the variety of cookbooks is mind-blowing. There are books on practically everything. I want to share a little about the two books that I found most interesting.

The first was a book called Bacon: A Love Story by Heather Lauer. This is a very comical book that basically is just trying to convince the public that bacon is “the best meat ever”. The name of the first chapter is “On the 8th Day, God created Bacon”. The author spends the first couple chapter talking about the history of bacon and just why bacon rocks. Other chapters are about bacon in breakfast recipes, foods that are wrapped in bacon, and more. There are few recipes, and more anecdotes and history.

The second book I really liked was The Too Many Tomatoes Cookbook by Brian Yarvin. Not only does this book have tons of quality pictures, it has a recipe practically on every page. The first chapter is on the tomato “basics” like peeled, sliced, and pureed tomatoes. Later, chapters include recipes salads, cold dishes, soups, and meat dishes, all including tomatoes of course. My favorite part of the cookbook was the last chapter: Tomato condiments. There are so many ketchup recipes! And they have a recipe for my favorite condiment, barbeque sauce.
